Tasmanian devil (Sarcophilus harrisii)

Family Dasyuridae

The Tasmanian devil is a carnivorous marsupial found on the island of Tasmania, although devils were found on mainland Australia in prehistoric times, and devils have recently been re-introduced to New South Wales.  Devils have a keen sense of smell and hunt at night, or at dawn and dusk.  They can hunt prey up to the size of a small kangaroo, but mainly are opportunistic feeders on carrion.  Devils usually eat 15% of their body weight each day.
